Description

The 2021 farm cash receipts for the district totalled $30.35 million, with $17.5 million in dairy production and a 200% increase in beef and cattle ranching operations since 2016. Average crop yields in 2021 tracked at 1.2 ton/acre of hay, 76.6 bushels/acre of canola, 107 bushels per acre for corn, 37 bushels per acre for soybean and 80.6 bushels/acre of barley.

Ag Overview

Based on the 2021 Census, the district had 150 farms, with a large number raising livestock. The majority of the farming operations are valued at over $500,000. The district is very diverse in agricultural sectors and has seen an increase in value added activities in the region, including stone milled flour and pressed canola and dairy processing. The District is also home to the Lakehead University Research Station which has facilitated significant agricultural advancements for the Thunder Bay agricultural community
