From May-October 2016, the District experienced an average of 251 mm of precipitation, 1,613 growing degree days and 2,547 crop heat units. The average growing season is approximately 180 days. Nipissing sits primarily in climate zone F and plant hardiness zone 4a & 3b. Soils in the District are thin, stony, well-drained podzols and tend to be highly acidic, with agricultural lime used to improve yields.
